Frequently Asked Questions
Acquiring a one-of-a-kind artwork should feel reassuring. Here are answers to the questions we are asked most often. If yours is not here, we would be glad to help.
Yes. Every piece is a genuine gold-thread obi, woven using real gold leaf applied to washi paper, finely cut and woven by hand. Each work is one of a kind — no two are ever alike. SAKAE ART is one of very few houses in Japan devoted to authentic traditional gold obi art, and we are happy to share the provenance and details of any piece on request.
Because each artwork is unique, we quote individually. Pricing reflects the size, age, rarity, and condition of each obi, and the framing chosen. We will gladly provide a price for any piece — simply select it and send an inquiry, and the work's reference will be filled in for you.
Open the artwork you are interested in and use the inquiry button; the piece's reference is carried over to the form automatically. You can also tell us the reference number directly. We respond personally, usually within two business days.
Yes. Works are presented framed and ready to hang, prepared to protect and present the delicate gold thread. If you have a preference for the framing or wish to discuss placement in your home, please let us know when you inquire and we will advise.
Your work is professionally packaged at a specialist framing shop and shipped via EMS or FedEx with tracking. We will confirm the protection and handling arrangements for your specific piece and destination before dispatch, so you have full peace of mind.
We cover the cost of international shipping. Any import duties, customs charges, or local taxes at the destination are the recipient's responsibility and vary by country. For the largest 25-square works we ask customers to collect in person. See our Shipping page for full details.
Because every piece is a unique, made-to-order-quality artwork, please review it carefully before purchase — we encourage viewing in person at our Naoshima gallery whenever possible. If a work arrives damaged in transit, contact us immediately and we will resolve it. For all other return questions, please reach out and we will do our best to help.
Absolutely, and we recommend it. Gold thread shifts with the light in a way no photograph can capture. Our flagship gallery on Naoshima opened on 29 April 2025, in the heart of the Setouchi Triennale art islands. You can view and acquire works on the spot — book a visit through our inquiry form.
Naoshima is reached by ferry from Uno Port (Okayama) or Takamatsu (Kagawa). On the island, town buses, rental bicycles, and taxis serve the gallery area. Our Gallery page has access details, opening hours, and a map. Advance booking is recommended for a guided viewing.
Yes. We regularly deliver works to collectors overseas by EMS or FedEx, with shipping covered by us. If you wish to purchase several works for overseas delivery, contact us and we will arrange consolidated, secure shipping.
